Guadalupe’s Story

Guadalupe and Waukegan to College grew up together. A participant since 5th grade, Guadalupe was one of our very first scholars, and she embraced every opportunity afforded to her as our programming grew in depth and breadth.

An outspoken student who is passionate about the environment, Guadalupe is pursuing environmental law as a natural path to her future. As a sophomore at Coe College, she continues her involvement with W2C, reminding students and their families of the “culture of low expectations” that permeates much of the Waukegan school system. “If you are not careful, the negativity can become contagious.” Guadalupe credits her W2C mentors, Mr. and Mrs. McDonald, for providing her with the kind of 1:1 guidance and support that is lacking in Waukegan schools.
